[PSP® system / PSP®go] Updated 05/06/2013

These are general instructions for saving game data on a PSP system. Saving game data can vary from game to game, so be sure to check your game for specific instructions. The following topics are available:

To save game data

Note: Do not remove the Memory Stick media or turn off the PSP when game data is being saved. When data is being saved, the Memory Stick media indicator light on the front of the PSP flashes.

  1. Start playing a game.

  2. Periodically throughout your gameplay, and again when you quit the game, the PSP system automatically saves the game data and a game profile.

  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to save game data.

  4. When you play the game the next time, insert the same Memory Stick media and the game will access the saved game data or the game will access the saved data that is on the system storage.

Notes:

  • Available Space
The amount of data you can save will depend on the storage capacity of the Memory Stick media (they come in various sizes) and the amount of information already saved. There must be enough available space for the files you wish to save on your Memory Stick media or system storage. For information about how to check for available space, see Check free space.
If you need more room, you might be able to delete data. For details on deleting game data, see above. For deleting other kinds of data, see Deleting Data.

  • Formatting
If this is the first time you've used the Memory Stick media, you must format it for use with your PSP®. For instructions, see Formatting Memory Stick media.

  • Folder Structure
Files must be saved in specific folders using appropriate names to be viewed on the PSP. If you have problems accessing content, see About the Folder Structure.
