[PlayStation®Network] Updated 05/06/2013

The PlayStation Network offers many parental controls for Sub Accounts. Sub Accounts can be created for children under 18 (as well as other adults, see Master Account versus Sub Account in the PlayStation Network for more information). Sub Accounts are always associated with a Master Account. The Master Account holder controls the Sub Accounts' settings, including parental controls.

Sony Entertainment Network Sub account Settings

The Master Account holder can restrict Sub Accounts' participation in the PlayStation Network using the settings listed below. The Master Account can edit these settings at any time for all associated Sub Accounts regardless of age (i.e. including adults' Sub Accounts).

Note: To edit your Sony Entertainment Network account settings, sign in to PlayStation®Network, then go to (PlayStation®Network) > [Account Management] > [Sub Account Management] > [Parental Control].

  • Chat

With this setting, a Master Account holder can block the ability of a Sub Account to send or receive text or voice / video chats. The Sub Account will not be able to communicate with other users on the PlayStation Network using the [Start New Chat] option under (Friends). However, the Sub Account may send and receive Message Box messages and chat invitations from other PlayStation Network users.

The default setting is "Block" meaning chat is restricted. Sub Account holders will not be able to participate in text or voice / video chat with other PlayStation Network users.

  • Content Restriction

With this setting, a Master Account holder can:

    • Prevent a Sub Account from buying game content through the PlayStation Network that is rated higher than his/her age according to the ESRB rating system
    • Prevent a Sub Account from playing PlayStation®3 format software content on the PlayStation Network that is rated higher than his age according to the ESRB rating system
    • The default value is set to "On" meaning content will be restricted based on user age

If this restriction is removed, Sub Accounts will be able to buy and play any content, including content that is rated higher than their age, or is inappropriate for their age according to the ESRB rating system.

  • Spending Limit (Monthly)

With this setting, a Master Account holder can set a monthly limit spending limit for a Sub Account to spend per month if the Master Account's wallet has sufficient funds.

The default value is set to "$0.00" meaning the Sub Account can not purchase any items.

Note: Sub Accounts have the default settings unless changed by the Master Account, click here if you wish to modify the account settings for a sub account.
