[PlayStation®Network] Updated 05/06/2013

Parental controls for text and voice / video chat on the PlayStation Network are controlled through Sub Account settings. When you set up a Sub Account, the account is automatically set to restrict this text and voice / video chat. The Master Account associated with the Sub Account has to remove the restriction to allow text and voice / video chat. A Master Account holder can confirm or change the setting to "unblock" or "block" text and voice / video chat for a Sub Account Start New Chat icon (Start New Chat) option under Friends icon (Friends) on the XMBTM.

Note: To edit your Sony Entertainment Network account settings, sign in to PlayStation®Network, then go to PlayStation Network icon (PlayStation®Network) > Account Management icon (Account Management) > [Sub Account Management] > [Parental Control].

Other things to know:

  • Message Box messages
Even when chat is "blocked," a Sub Account may send and receive friend requests from other PlayStation Network users in the Message Box icon (Message Box) under Friends icon (Friends) on the XMB.

  • PlayStation Network Chat
Under Friends icon (Friends) > Start New Chat icon (Start New Chat), a Sub Account may send and receive text or voice / video chats from other PlayStation Network users. You may block a Sub Account's ability to send or receive text or voice / video chats through the Master Account's settings. Please see parental controls for the PlayStation Network for more information.

  • In-Game Communication when playing games online
When playing games online, some titles may also offer chat capabilities during in game sessions. If, as a Master Account holder, you place a restriction on your Sub Account through the Chat parental control setting for voice and video, your Sub Account's ability to use those capabilities on the PlayStation Network will be restricted and your Sub Account's ability to use those capabilities in-game will be restricted.

  • Equipment
In order to use the audio or video capabilities, you will need to purchase compatible equipment and peripherals.

  • Proper Supervision
You should monitor and control your Sub Account's communication and participation at all times.

See Parental controls for the PlayStation Network for more information.
