[PS3™ system] Updated 05/06/2013

In July 2011, SCEA is going to release two new models of the PS3 system, CECH-3001A (160GB) and CECH-3001B (320GB).

The major difference, when using a component AV cable with the CECH-3001A and CECH-3001B models, you will not be able to output HD resolution of movies on the following types of discs:

  • Blu-ray (AACS)
  • BD video software (BD-ROM)
  • BDs recorded with copyright-protected video content

This means copy-protected Blu-ray videos will not output videos any higher than 480i when using a component cable. In order to view videos in HD resolution (720p, 1080i or 1080p), you must use an HDMI cable connected to a device that is compatible with the HDCP standard.

This should NOT affect the HD resolution for Blu-ray games. This will only affect copy-protected Blu-ray movies.
