Connect PS3 to Wired Network (Basic Settings)

Below are instructions for connecting the PlayStation 3 to a wired network using an Ethernet cable and the [Easy] setting. For other network connection options, see How to connect the PlayStation 3 to the Internet.

Text Instructions

  1. Power-cycle ALL network equipment.
    Turn off (unplug) all of your network equipment, including any wireless access points, routers, Voice Over IP (VOIP) modems, and broadband modems for two (2) full minutes. See How to power cycle PlayStation 3 network devices for more details.

  2. After two minutes have elapsed, plug in all equipment and be sure to plug in an ethernet cord into the Network port on your PlayStation 3.

  3. On the XMB™ home menu, go to Settings icon (Settings) > Network Settings icon (Network Settings) and press the X button icon button.

  4. Then go to Internet Connection icon (Internet Connection) and select [Enabled].

  5. Then scroll down to Internet Connection Settings icon (Internet Connection Settings) and press the X button icon button.

    Select [Yes] when a confirmation screen is displayed stating that you will be disconnected from the Internet.

  6. Select [Easy] and press the X button icon button.

    The system will check your network configuration settings and a list of settings will be displayed.
    Depending on the network environment, additional settings for PPPoE, proxy server, or IP address may be required. For details on these settings, refer to the information from your Internet service provider or instructions supplied with the network device.

  7. The list of settings will appear. Save the settings by pressing the X  button icon button.

  8. Once the settings have been saved, test the connection by pressing the X  button icon button.

  9. Confirm the connection test results.
    • If you have successfully connected to your network, congratulations, you have completed the network setup process.

    • If your connection test fails, follow the on-screen instructions to check the settings. Refer also to the information from your Internet service provider and the instructions supplied with the network device in use (i.e., router, modem, etc.).
