Notice for PS3 Users Enjoying Audio/Video Content on Blu-ray DiscTM
If your movie will not play and you see a message advising you to "Renew Encryption Key" you will need to update your PS3 system with the latest system software which will include the latest AACS encryption keys. Click here to download the latest system software.
Why must I update the AACS encryption keys?
Blu-ray Disc (BD) uses the Advanced Access Content System (AACS) for audio/video content protection. AACS Licensing Administrator, LLC (AACS LA) maintains AACS's security by requiring periodic renewal of AACS encryption keys stored on BDs as well as BD software players, such as the PlayStation 3 system and PCs, as part of their "proactive renewal" effort.1
You should always make sure your PlayStation 3 system is updated to the latest system software so that it will have the most up to date set of AACS encryption keys. Existing BDs with old AACS keys can be played as usual with newer AACS encryption keys, However, the newest released movie titles will only play with the most up to date encryption keys that are included in the PS3 system software.
"Proactive renewal" applies to BD audio/video content only. PS3 format game software does not use AACS and can be played as usual.2
Be sure to keep your PlayStation 3 updated with the latest system software to ensure that all Blu-ray Disc movies will play properly on the PS3.
1 AACS LA will renew their keys periodically.
2 PS3 format game software does not adopt AACS as its content protection system.
