Credit Card Problems

If you are having issues with the credit card being accepted, click here for some troubleshooting steps.

Sub Accounts

Add/Remove billing information on the PS4


To add or update credit or debit card information via the PlayStation Store:

  1. From the PlayStation Store menu, select [Payment Methods]
  2. Enter your password
  3. Select [Add a Credit or Debit Card]
  4. Enter your name, the long credit/debit card number, expiry date and security code (the three digit number on the signature strip) and select [Next].
  5. Enter the billing address for the card and select Confirm

To add PayPal information via the PlayStation Store:

  1. Choose your purchases and select [Add Funds] or [Proceed to Checkout] on the Purchase Confirmation screen
  2. Select [Add a PayPal Account]
  3. Enter your PayPal email address and password and press [Log in]
  4. Confirm PayPal Account Agreement and press [Accept]

To add or update credit card or PayPal information via the Settings menu:

  1. Select your local user account, press up on the control pad to access the Function menu and go to  [Settings] > [PlayStation Network] > [Account Information] > [Wallet] > [Payment Methods]
  2. Enter your password
  3. Select [Add a Credit Card] or [Add a PayPal Account]
  4. For Credit: Enter your name, the long credit/debit card number, expiry date and security code (the three digit number on the signature strip) and select [Next]
    For PayPal: Enter your PayPal email address and password and press [Log in]

  5. For Credit: Enter the billing address for the card and select [Confirm]

    For PayPal: Confirm PayPal™ Account Agreement and press [Accept]

 

To remove or update credit card and PayPal information:

From the PlayStation Store:

  1. From the PlayStation Store menu, select [Payment Methods] from the left menu
  2. Enter your password
  3. Select the payment method which you would like to remove
  4. Select [Delete] to remove credit card or PayPal information or [Edit Card Information] to change it

From the [Settings] menu:

To select your default payment method:

Via the [Settings] menu:

  1. From the [Settings] menu, go to > [PlayStation Network] > [Account Information] > [Wallet] > [Payment Methods]
  2. Select the payment method you'd like to be your default method of payment from the list
  3. Select [Set as Default]

Via the PlayStation Store:

  1. From the PlayStation Store menu, select [Payment Methods] from the left menu
  2. Enter your password
  3. Select the payment method you'd like to be your default method of payment from the list
  4. Select [Set as Default]



Add/Remove billing information on the PS3


For credit cards:

  1. Sign into your Sony Entertainment Network account under PlayStation Network icon(PlayStation®Network) on the XMB™ home menu.

  2. Highlight Account Management icon(Account Management) and press the X button iconbutton.

  3. Select "Account Information" and press the X button iconbutton.

  4. Select "Billing Information" and press the X button iconbutton.

  5. Enter your PlayStation Network password, highlight "Continue" and press the X button iconbutton.

  6. Enter your credit card information. If you have a credit card on file, your credit card information will be displayed. You may edit your billing information at this point. Once complete, press the X button iconbutton on "Continue".

    If you wish to remove your billing information, at the bottom of the screen you will see the option "Delete Billing Information". Select this and press the X button icon button.

  7. If you chose to remove your billing information, the message "Your billing information will be deleted. Are you sure you want to continue?" will appear. Highlight "Yes" and press the X button iconbutton to remove your credit card information.

  8. If the edits have been successful, the message "Update completed" or "Billing information deleted" will appear and your credit card information will now be updated.

To add PayPal information via the PlayStation Store:

  1. Choose your purchases and select [Add Funds] or [Proceed to Checkout] on the Purchase Confirmation screen
  2. Select [Add a PayPal Account]
  3. Enter your PayPal email address and password and press [Log in]
  4. Confirm PayPal Account Agreement and press [Accept]

To remove or update credit card and PayPal information:

From the PlayStation Store:

  1. From the PlayStation Store menu, select [Payment Methods] from the left menu
  2. Enter your password
  3. Select the payment method which you would like to remove
  4. Select [Delete] to remove credit card or PayPal information or [Edit Card Information] to change it

To set a credit card or PayPal account as your default method of payment:

  1. From the PlayStation Store menu, select [Payment Methods] from the left menu
  2. Enter your password
  3. Select the payment method you'd like to be your default method of payment from the list
  4. Select [Set as Default]

If you're having difficult adding your PayPal information, please note the following:

  • If you have initially chosen PayPal as the default payment option and you thereafter register a new credit card via your PS3 settings menu or PS Vita, the default payment method will be automatically changed to this credit card and the existing PayPal account will be removed without any notification.

  • If you have already registered 3 credit cards, one of them will be replaced by the newly registered credit card. Note: If you register the existing credit card on your account, the PayPal account won’t be removed. • If you have registered 2 or more payment methods and via your PS3 settings menu or PS Vita you delete a credit card that is currently the default payment method, the default payment method will automatically switch to the next available payment method without any notification.

On the PS Vita


PayPal: Unfortunately, you cannot pay using PayPal on Vita systems. If you have initially chosen PayPal as the default payment option, credit card information is required when purchasing something at Store. You can use a PSN card as an alternative payment method.

  1. From the Home screen, tap the Image PS Store icon
    .
  2. Tap Start in the center of the LiveArea.

  3. Tap the ... icon in the lower right corner.

  4. Tap Transaction Management.

  5. Tap Billing Information.

  6. Enter the password associated with your SEN account.

  7. Carefully enter your billing information. If you experience problems with this portion of the process, please refer to this article on credit card problems for some troubleshooting steps.

  8. To remove your billing information, tap the Clear Billing Information button at the bottom of the Billing Information screen.

From a PC or Web Browser


From the Sony Entertainment Network website you can modify your Sony Entertainment Network account information, including change password, edit billing information, and choose your default method of payment.

  1. Visit the SEN website at https://account.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com and log in to your account.
     
  2. Click on the [Account] tab.

  3. Click on "Billing Information" on the left and you can add your billing address and credit card information.

    If you wish to delete existing credit card information, click "Delete".

To add a PayPal account:

  1. Sign in here
  2. Go to the [Account] tab and select [Wallet]
  3. Select [Add PayPal]
  4. Select [Pay with my PayPal account] and log into your account to authorize payment
  5. Confirm your account information and select [Agree and Continue]

To remove a PayPal account:

  1. Sign in here
  2. Go to the Account tab and select [Wallet]
  3. Tap [Delete] to remove your PayPal account

To select your default billing information (credit card or PayPal:

  1. Sign in here
  2. Select the [Account] tab and then go to [Wallet]
  3. Choose [Select Default]
  4. Select the payment method you'd like to be your default method of payment from the list
  5. Click the [Set Default] button

Xperia mobile or Sony tablet 

Add, remove or update billing credit or debit card information:

  1. Press the menu key and tap [Account] > [Wallet]
  2. Follow the on-screen prompts to update or remove your billing information

Select your default billing information (credit card or PayPal):

  1. Press the menu key and tap [Account] > [Wallet]
  2. Tap [Select Default]
  3. Select the payment method you'd like to be your default method of payment from the list
  4. Tap the [Set Default] button

To add a PayPal account:

  1. Sign in here if you are using a web browser on a PC or mobile device or from the PlayStation app go to [Settings] > [Account Information]
  2. Go to the [Account] tab and select [Wallet]
  3. Select [Add PayPal]
  4. Select [Pay with my PayPal account] and log into your account to authorize payment
  5. Confirm your account information and select [Agree and Continue]

To remove a PayPal account:

  1. Sign in here if you are using a web browser on a PC or mobile device or from the PlayStation app go to [Settings] > [Account Information]
  2. Go to the Account tab and select [Wallet]
  3. Tap [Delete] to remove your PayPal account

On the PSP system


  1. On the XMB™, go to PlayStation Network icon(PlayStation®Network) > Account Management icon(Account Management) and press the X button iconbutton.

  2. Sign in to your Sony Entertainment Network account.

  3. Select "Account Information" and press the X button iconbutton.

  5. Enter your PlayStation Network password, highlight "Continue" and press the X button iconbutton.

  6. Enter your credit card information. If you have a credit card on file, your credit card information will be displayed. You may edit your billing information at this point. Once complete, press the X button iconbutton on "Continue".
