The Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA), more commonly known as a Media Server, is a standard that enables digital devices such as personal computers, digital video recorders, and TVs to be connected on a network and to share media files that are on the connected DLNA-compatible devices. Make sure that the files you access are file types that are supported by the PS3, otherwise, the PS3 will not be able to read them.
Click below for the files types supported by the PS3:
DLNA-compatible devices serve two different functions:
- "Servers" are devices like a computer or a dedicated media server that stores and distributes media such as image, music, or video files
- "Clients" are devices that receive and play the media (i.e., the PS3).
- Some devices perform both functions.
It is possible to use a PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system as a client and display images or play music or video files that are stored on a device with DLNA Media Server functionality over a network
Click here for a list of devices that are compatible with DLNA.
Within a network, devices can be connected that are compatible with DLNA such as Sony Room Link, Microsoft® Windows® XP, Microsoft® Windows Vista™, or Microsoft® Windows 7 personal computers that have Windows Media® Player 11 or greater installed. Please note you must configure your other media server before the PS3 may connect to it.
