Main Menu for PlayStation®2 system

The PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system on-screen main menu is the starting place for many PlayStation®2 functions. The main menu offers two choices: Browser or System Configuration. From the Browser screen you can access saved data, games, CDs and DVDs. From the System Configuration screen you can change settings for numerous options including language or time display, and audio or video output method.

Top Using the System Configuration screen options

Select System Configuration from the Main Menu and then press the X button to vide the following options:

  1. Turn on the PlayStation 2 system to display the main menu.

  2. Select System Configuration and press the Xbutton.

  3. Select one of the following options and press the Xbutton:
    • Clock Adjustments
      • Use the directional buttons to set: Year, Month, Day, Hour and Minute.
      • Optionally, press the Xbutton in the Clock Adjustment screen to display these optional settings:
        • Time Format
          Set the system clock to either 12-hour or 24- hour display.
        • Date Format
          Set the display order of Year, Month and Day.
        • Time Zone
          Set the time zone.
        • Daylight Savings Time
          Set Standard or Daylight Savings (Summer) Time.

    • Screen Size Select one of the following settings:
      • 4:3 (default)
        Select when using a standard TV.
      • Full
        Select when using a standard TV, when you want the largest screen possible. This option will cut off the black margins on the upper and lower portions of the screen.
      • 16:9
        Select when using a wide screen TV or standard TV with special 16:9/wide screen functionality.

    • Digital Out (Optical)
      Select to output the audio signal through the DIGITAL OUT (OPTIONAL) connector:
      • On (default)
        Select to output the signal.
      • Off
        Select if you do not want to output the signal.

    • Component Video Out
      Set the mode to match the input jacks on your TV when using the component AV cable (sold separately) to install the PlayStation®2:
      • Y Cb/Pb Cr/Pr (default)
        Select when connecting the system to component video input connectors.
      • RGB
        Select when connecting the system to the usual Red/Blue/Green input connectors. (not using a component cable)

    • Remote Control
      Indicate whether or not you are using the DVD remote control (for PlayStation®2) (sold separately):
      • Gameplay Function On (default)
        Select when operating the PlayStation® or PlayStation®2 format discs with the DVD remote control.
      • Gameplay Function Off
        Select when not operating with the DVD remote control.

    • Language
      Select the language displayed on the main menu, Browser, System Configuration, and Version Information screens. You can choose from the following languages:
      • English (default)
      • French
      • Spanish
      • German
      • Italian
      • Dutch
      • Portuguese

      NOTE: See Resetting the Language below if your system menu is displayed in a language that you don't understand.

  4. Select the desired setting for any of the options above and press the Xbutton to confirm your choice.
Top Using the Browser screen options
  1. Turn on the PlayStation®2 to display the main menu.

  2. Select Browser and press the Xbutton.

  3. Insert a memory card, game disc, CD or DVD.

  4. When the icon for the inserted item is displayed on the Browser screen, select its corresponding icon and press the Xbutton:

    • Memory Card
      Copy or delete saved game data. Click Herefor more information about Memory Cards.

    • Game
      Start a game.

    • CD
      Play a CD.

    • DVD
      Start a DVD.

Version Information screen for PlayStation®2 system

You can also press the Triangle button in the main menu to display the Version Information screen. This screen displays version information for various system components and lets you adjust Texture Mapping and Disc Speed settings. These are optional settings which can effect the operation of some PlayStation® software.

Top Adjusting Texture Mapping
  1. Press the Triangle button iconbutton in the main menu to access the "Version Information" screen.

  2. Highlight the PlayStation Driver option and press the Triangle button iconbutton.

  3. Select the "Texture Mapping" option.

  4. Choose "Standard" or "Smooth".
    • Standard
      "Standard" is the default setting.
    • Smooth
      "Smooth" can make the display smoother when playing certain PlayStation® format software. However, depending on the software, there may be no effect. If this occurs, select "Standard".
Top Adjusting Disc Speed
  1. Press the Triangle button iconbutton in the main menu to access the "Version Information" screen.

  2. Highlight the PlayStation Driver option and press the Triangle button iconbutton.

  3. Select the "Disc Speed" option.

  4. Choose "Standard" or "Fast".
    • Standard
      "Standard" is the default setting.
    • Fast
      "Fast" can make the loading time shorter for certain PlayStation® format software. However, depending on the software, there may be no effect. If this occurs, select "Standard".

Resetting the Language

If the menu language has been set to a language that you don't understand, then follow these directions to adjust the language to English, Spanish, French, etc.

Top To reset the language option:
  1. Image
  2. Select the System Configuration option from the main menu and press the Xbutton (it is the bottom of the two options available, whatever language the system is set to. See image at right).
  3. On the System Configuration menu, press the UP button on the Directional Pad once, to reach the language menu.
  4. Press the Xbutton to enter the language menu.
  5. Scroll left or right until the English (or French, or Spanish) option shows. The screenshots below show how the English option will appear in each of the languages that the PlayStation®2 system supports.
