Question: Will it cost extra to stream video to my PS3 system from Netflix?
Answer: No. If you have an active Netflix account that includes Instant Watching, then you can view video content instantly on your PS3 system using your Netflix account.
Q: When I watch a movie instantly on my PS3 system, the image is blurry and fuzzy. Why doesn't the Netflix movie that I'm watching look as good as a DVD or BD?
A: The quality of the video that you're watching using an internet streaming service such as Netflix depends on the speed of your Internet connection. Faster connections may give you better image quality. To watch movies instantly via your PS3 system, we recommend a broadband connection providing at least 700 kilobits per second. For DVD quality video and audio, your Internet Service Provider needs to give you a stable internet connection that can maintain at least 2.4 megabits per second to the Netflix Servers for the duration of a film. For more information about your internet connection speed and ways to increase your connection speed, please contact your Internet Service Provider.
Q: I have video content in my regular queue that does not show up on the Instant Queue on my PS3 system. Why is that?
A: Not all content on the Netflix website is available for instant watching. For more information on how instant watching works, please visit the Netflix website at http://www.netflix.com and click the Watch Instantly tab.
Q: I'm not a member of Netflix. Can I try Netflix instant watching on my PS3 system?
A: Yes. First, launch the Netflix software on your PS3 system. Select "No" when you're asked if you have a Netflix account and then press X. From there you can follow the on-screen instructions to create a new Netflix account. After signing up, you will be able to set up an Instant Queue to watch video content on your PS3 system during the free trial period. Q: Do I need a Sony Entertainment Network account to access Netflix instant watching?
A: Yes. Additionally, your PS3 system must be signed in to the PlayStation Network in order to use Netflix. This means that Netflix will not be available on PS3 systems when the PlayStation Network is down for maintenance.
Q: Does the PS3 system download the entire Netflix movie or TV show?
A: No, the PS3 system does not download the content all at once. Instead, your PS3 system shows the list of titles that you’ve added to your Netflix Instant Queue. When you choose to watch a Netflix title, the PS3 system streams the movie over the Internet, generally starting playback in 30 seconds or less.
Q: How many choices are available to watch with a PS3 system?
A: There are currently over 12,000 movies and TV episodes available to watch with more being added every week.
Q: How many titles can I watch?
A: As long as you have an unlimited Netflix subscription you can watch as many titles as you like.
Q: How do I add titles to my PS3 system?
A: Select the Netflix icon from the Video portion of the XMB and then press the X button. In the Netflix menu you can browse through New Arrivals, search movies by genre (drama, action, sci-fi, etc.) or search for movies by keyword. Select a video and press the X button to view details such as rating, running time, cast. Select "Play" and press the X button to view the selected video. You also have the option to "Add to instant Queue".
Q: What is an "instant queue"?
A: As a Netflix customer you create a queue, or list, of DVDs you want to receive. The instant queue is a list of movies you want to have available on your Netflix account to play instantly. Once you add a title to your instant queue, it’s available on the PS3 system for playback on your TV at anytime. The same videos will appear in your Instant Queue whether you access your Netflix account on a PS3 system or on a computer.
Q: Can I copy movies from the PS3 system to another device?
A: Netflix movies can be watched on your PC while on the Netflix site or on your TV via the PS3 system. Movies cannot be copied or transferred to other devices.
Q: Are there parental controls on some PS3 systems?
A: Yes. The parental lock feature allows filtering of rated Blu-ray and DVD content. Controls need to be set on the Netflix account page in order to filter rated Netflix content. The Parental Controls of the PS3 system will not affect Netflix Instant Watch titles.
Q: Can I fast-forward or rewind when I am viewing Netflix online content using the PS3 system?
A: Yes, you can fast forward and rewind up to three different speeds.
Q: Will the PS3 system play online content in high definition (HD)?
A: Yes. Some Netflix Watch Instantly content is available in HD (1080p) resolution if you have a fast enough internet connection. The quality of Netflix Watch Instantly content is largely dependent on the speed of your Internet connection. In short, the faster your connection, the higher the resolution will be. Q: How do I remove movies and shows from my instant queue?
A: You can remove titles from your instant queue by choosing the remove option from the details page on your TV or you can remove them using the Instant Queue page on the website. You can always add those titles back again. There is no extra charge for watching them again.
Q: Can I resume watching a Netflix Watch Instantly title that I didn’t finish?
A: Yes. Select a video in Netflix and press the X button to view the options to "Resume playing" or "Play from beginning".
Q: How many different PS3 systems can I have associated with my Netflix account at any given time?
A: You are allowed to have up to six different devices activated on your Netflix account at any given point. These devices may include PS3 systems, computers, etc. Activation takes place automatically when you login to Netflix using a PS3 system. The option to deactivate a Netflix ready device is available at https://www.netflix.com/YourAccount.
Q: Are there commercials?
A: No. There are no commercials in any of the Netflix Watch Instantly titles that are streamed to your PC or TV via a Netflix Ready Device.
