[PlayStation®Network] Updated 09/12/2014

If you received the following error message while entering your credit card / billing information into your Sony Entertainment Network account, then your account may be blocked.

"Your credit card information could not be updated. It’s been updated too often within a short amount of time. Please try again in a few minutes."

If you received the above message, you must wait 24 hours before you attempt to make another purchase or attempt to update your billing information again. If you try to make a purchase or change your billing during this 24 hour period, the block will reset and you will have to wait 24 hours from that point.

Once you have waited 24 hours, please follow these guidelines when entering billing information into your Sony Entertainment Network account.

Alternate payment options

Credit cards aren't the only acceptable ways to fund your PSN wallet. If you are having problems making a purchase or making changes to your billing information, you can use one of the following options to fund your wallet. If you wish to try your credit card, please follow the guidelines when entering billing information below.

  • PayPalImage

You may use PayPal to add funds to your wallet. Visit our PayPal article to learn how to use PayPal to fund your wallet via your console or the Web.

  • PSN CardImage

A PlayStation Network (PSN) Card will allow you to place credit into your Sony Entertainment Network account so that you can make purchases on the PSN Store. It is similar to a prepaid card. These cards can be purchased from your local retailer.

Guidelines for entering billing information

Adjustments to your billing address:

  • Please make sure the Sony Entertainment Network account Address is the same as the PSN Billing Address.
    • Go to PLAYSTATION NETWORK > ACCOUNT MANAGEMENT > ACCOUNT INFORMATION > ADDRESS and have it match the PSN Billing Address found in:
  • We do not recommend PO Box addresses. Enter a physical mailing address if possible.
  • Please remove any special characters when entering your billing address into the Sony Entertainment Network account registration form such as, asterisks (*), hyphens (-), and slashes ( / ). (For example, if your address is 1547 1/2 Lincoln Way, we recommend removing the fraction and try entering "1547 Lincoln Way" instead.
  • Military (APO and FPO) addresses are currently unable to be accepted as a valid address on the PlayStation Network. If you do not see your country listed in the dropdown menu, see PlayStation Network access from another region for details.
  • The billing information be entered exactly as it appears on your credit card statement.
  • Apartment numbers should appear on the same line as the street address.
  • If you are still having difficulty:
    • Try removing apartment numbers altogether.
    • Try spelling out numbered street names (e.g., use "First" instead of "1st")
    • Try removing anything that notes direction (e.g., remove "NW", "SOUTHEAST", etc.) from the street address.

Possible Issues with your credit/debit card:

  • The PSN Store accepts Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express, and debit cards an official Visa or MasterCard logo.
  • International bank cards (credit or debit) CANNOT be used with the North American PlayStation Network registration system. A Credit or Debit card with a North American billing address must be used.
  • Make sure the credit card or debit card has not expired. For instructions on how to check or change the credit card information on your account click here.
  • Check with your card issuer to see whether your credit card / debit card supports AVS (Address Verification System). If it does not support AVS, the credit card / debit card may not be accepted by the PlayStation Network.
  • We do not recommend using gift cards (such as a Visa gift card) or prepaid cards (such as a Prepaid MasterCard). We cannot guarantee they will work, especially if they do not have a billing address tied to the account.
