Won't Power On

If you PS Vita will not power on, try the following:

  • Did you press and hold the power button for 5 seconds?
When turning on your PS Vita system for the first time, press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
When the power comes on, the PS button lights up blue one time and then the initial settings screen is displayed.
If the screen does not appear even though the PS button lights up blue one time, refer to PS Vita Picture Problems.

  • Did you just put your system into standby mode?
Immediately after you put your system into standby mode, the power may not come on even if you press the power button. Wait a while and try again.

  • Are you continuing to use your PS Vita system while it is connected by a USB cable to a PC?
Either turn off the power and charge the PS Vita system for a while or connect the AC adapter.
The USB device or USB hub to which your PS Vita system is connected may not be able to supply sufficient power to charge your system. If your PS Vita system cannot be charged, try charging it from the AC Adaptor (wall outlet).

  • Battery completely used?
If the battery was completely used, you will need to charge the PS Vita from a wall outlet for at least 15-20 minutes before turning it on.

  • Press and hold the power button for more than 30 seconds to completely turn off your system and then after waiting a while, press and hold the power button for 5 seconds to turn on your system.
When the screen is blacked out, it may seem that the power is not turned off. In that case, the situation may be improved by trying this.

  • Has the system been charged enough? Is it connected properly?
Is the AC adaptor connected properly?
Connect the USB cable so that the PS logo is visible along with the SONY logo below the system screen (touchscreen).

Does the PS button light up orange when the AC adaptor is connected?
    • PS button is blinking
The battery has no remaining charge.
Wait until the PS button stops blinking and lights up orange before pressing the power button.

    • PS button does not light up
The AC adaptor or battery may be defective.
You will need to send your system in for service. Click here for service information.
